Does the defrost heater cutout normally have continuity at ambient temp with no power applied?
indesit BAN12NF.Is the defrost cycle a 24 hour clock timer cycle,or is it controlled by the number of compressor runs,or how? Should the PCB microcontroller supply intermittent switched power to the defrost heater coincident with the door left open light warning cct activated or is this aPCB/microcontroller fault or an inadvertant design error?

Hi Chas. This is a little bit out of my league I think! I'm not familiar with exactly how defrost heaters work, I'm only sure of their use - to keep the fridge's temperature constant and to prevent icy build up. I'm going to forward you to the Wikipedia article on auto-defrost - hopefully it can shed some light on this for you.
