what is a sensing band

I have a Hotpoint Condensor tumble dryer. The drum has stopped turning and I opened the back to investigate why. A black plastic part that looks like a big film strip had come away and got trapped in the wires. Is this part a sensing strip and is that why the drum has stopped turning despite the motor obviously being functional.

Hi Abbameridy, the sensing band fits round the drum in your dryer, and slightly resembles, as you say, a film strip. With regard to be it being the reason your drum has stopped turning, that could be for a number of reasons, and I wouldn't be able to say without seeing the dryer.
