Hi I'm Mat from eSpares.

In this video I'll be showing you how to identify an error code on a Bosch, Siemens or Neff washing machine with a digital display.

Now this series of machines may indicate an error code if the machine has a problem, and the error code will be displayed on the digital display by a single letter followed by two numbers. The error code can be used to help you identify where in the machine the problem is occurring.

Now once you've identified where the problem is in your machine, please see our other fix it and how-to videos for further assistance.

First things first, always make sure you unplug an appliance before carrying out any work.

Now the first fault code Fault code 01 or on some machines Error 17 fault code 17 relates to a water level fault error. So make sure that the water supply is turned on to your machine and then make sure the hoses are not trapped or kinked. Check the filters in the hose or inlet valve, check the inlet valve and its electrical connection, now if you have checked these areas and the problem still persists, check the pressure switch itself for any faults, and the hose to make sure that's not blocked or damaged. You should also check the electrical connections, its connection to the module and replace if necessary.

Fault code 02 or F02 relates to a heater error. Now on this machine the heater is located at the front, so I've taken off the front panel of to get myself better access. So check the heater, check the connections and you can also test using a multimeter. If the problem persists check the machines module.

Fault codes 06 and 07 relate to an NTC sensor error, so test the NTC and its connections.

Fault codes 08, 16 or 34 indicate a door lock error. So check that the door closes properly, check the catch and the latch on the door lock, check the door lock itself and its electrical connections, and replace if necessary.

F03 or F18 indicates a drain error, so check the pressure switch on full but it is most likely to be caused by debris being stuck in the pump.

Fault code 04, 05, 21, 42, 43 and 44 all relate to a motor error. So check your motors carbon brushes for excessive wear, check the electrical plug for any damage or corrosion same with the wiring. If your motor is spinning to high-speed straightaway check that tacho connections, and if the problem persists after checking all those areas suspect the PCB or module.

Fault code 09 or F09 relates to unexplained heating in the machine, so if your machine is heating up during a rinse cycle for example check the module or PCB.

Fault code 10 or F 10 relates to a communication error, so check the wiring between your module and you motor.

Now on some of these machines at the base is an anti flood device so if your machine is indicating F23 or fault code 23 check for a leak, also check the float switch at the base of the machine, this may have become damaged or out of position.

Now we believe these error codes to be accurate for this series of machine, if you need any other further help relating to error codes for your machine do have a look at our website, and spares and accessories for all makes and manufacture of washing machines can also be found on espares.co.uk.

Note: You can reset an error code by the follow steps.

  • Turn the appliance knob to the off or reset position, 12 o'clock.
  • Turn the knob to the 6 o'clock position.
  • Press and hold the spin button and while holding the spin button turn the knob to the 7 o'clock position.
  • Continue holding the spin button for about 5 seconds then release the spin button and now turn the knob to off
  • When your turn it back on it should have cleared the error code
