How to Replace a Catch & Latch on a Hotpoint Dryer

If your tumble dryer door either won’t stay closed or won't lock shut then the culprit is usually either the latch on the door or the catch on the machine itself. On most dryers they are very easy to replace and are held in place by one or two crosshead screws.

However, if the problem isn’t with the catch or latch, but rather with the “swing” of the door then the hinge is usually to blame. You can visit this article How to Reverse the Door on a Hotpoint Dryer which demonstrates how to replace the hinge and even reverse the swing of a Hotpoint dryer.

If your tumble dryer door seems like it is suffering from a faulty door catch or latch, you will be pleased to know that at least you have landed at the right place to help you out!

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar

  What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Switch off Your Appliance

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 -Replace the Door Catch & Latch

The catch and the latch come as a kit - so here we are going to replace both, starting with the catch. Proceed to unscrew it...and it just simply pops out, so you will then be able to pop the new one back in, and fit the screw. The latch is also really easy, you just need to unscrew it...take it out, put the new one and replace.

And there you go - it really is that simple! Hopefully, now your newly gained tumble dryer DIY skills have meant that you now have a fully functioning door once again.
