How to Replace a Vax Power Cable

If you’ve tried to pull your vacuum cleaner by the power cable and not the handle you may have accidentally damaged it. Luckily for you this article is just what you may need. Sometimes over time a power cable can become defective if it's wrapped too tightly around the machine during storage.

If you’ve never replaced a mains cable on your vacuum cleaner before, don’t worry. eSpares has created this step by step guide to show you how easy the whole process is. So engage your thinking cap and let’s save you some money..

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

  What You Will Need:

  Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Detach The Bottom Of The Machine

eSpares provide universal mains cables if the original is no longer available, but we always recommend using a genuine spare.

The power cable is located at the top of the machine; so carefully unclip the bottom half of the vacuum and put it to one side.

Step 3 - Remove The Cable Cover

To access the mains cable, we’ll need to remove the plastic cover above it. Grab a screwdriver and remove the screw holding the cable cover in place.

Step 4 - Remove And Replace The Power Cable

With the cable cover out of the way, you should see that the power cable is secured with a cable guard and two screws. Remove the two screws and the cable guard should pop out.

You should see two coloured wires which need to be removed from the terminal block. Even though it's very simple wiring, we still recommend taking a picture so it can be used as a template for the new power cable.

Remove the screws from the cable terminal to release the wires and replace them with your new cable, making sure to re-wire it correctly.

You’ve now replaced the mains cable on your vacuum cleaner and we hope you’re feeling quite proud of yourself. If you need to locate the correct cable for your vacuum cleaner, start your search with eSpares today.
