How to Replace the Detergent Dispenser on a Dishwasher - Siemens

The Dishwasher’s detergent dispenser is a pivotal part to ensuring your dining ware and cookware are cleaned. Used to hold and distribute the detergent and rinse aid during the cycle if it becomes faulty your dishwasher is pretty much useless.

Key faults are that the spring loaded door can become stuck in the open or closed position or the mechanism which controls it may fail. This guide will assist you and highlight just how simple it is to replace the detergent dispenser assembly on a Siemens built-in dishwasher.

At eSpares we know that finding simple to follow instructions can be difficult with so many other guides out there. We have strived to give you the most easy to follow instructions on replacing the detergent dispenser for your dishwasher.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need:
  • Dispenser
  • Screwdriver

Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Caution: Due to the sharp edges exposed we suggest suitable Safety Gloves are worn to help prevent injury when carrying out this repair.

Step 2 - Separating The Door

Let's get started, If you dishwasher has a decor door you will need to remove the outer panel.  Reasonably simple - remove all the screws which run along the outside of the door panel. Ensure you have the correct screwdriver head to perform this step.

In the video Rory requires a torx head but your dishwasher could vary. Now, once you've removed all of the screws, the door will split into two parts, separate the door from the panel and put it to the side.

Step 3 - Disconnecting The Dispenser

Now with the panel out of the way you will see the back of the old detergent dispenser - you will need to push this out through the door. There should be a connection block - unplug this from the dispenser and put it to one side.

You should be able to see some clips holding the dispenser in place, these run along either side. Removing is simple - working your way around unclip them, they may be a little tight but you can use a flat-head screwdriver to help.

Step 4 - Fitting The New Dispenser

With the dispenser unclipped you can remove and replace it with the new one - however before you do the new dispenser maybe a tad tight so it's time for a…...

eSpares Top Tip: To help ease the new dispenser in place, run some fairy liquid around the seal - this will help the new part slip into position.

With the liquid around the seal fix the dispenser into its new home - into the door. To fit the part open the door on the dishwasher and fit it from this position, the dispenser should clip securely into place. This may be a bit fiddly but persevere as it will fit.

Step 5 - Reassembly

Once you are happy that the dispenser is securely in position, remember that connection block you detached earlier? Well that now needs to be fitted back in place. WIth it connected back up you can now refit the panel to the door - simply position it back in place and fit the screws.

Once the panel is in place you are all done! Great work you have just replaced a key component on your dishwasher. For help with other repairs or care and maintenance see our advice centre for more.
