How to Replace the Dispenser Drawer on a Washing Machine - Hotpoint

Replacing a damaged or blocked dispenser drawer is super simple! This easy fix will help you keep your washing machine feeding the detergents and softeners into the drum. Over time the drawer handle could snap or the dispenser could become stained and require replacing - when this happens, a new appliance could be in the cards.

However with our help we can not only supply the parts required but we’ll even show you how to fix it. Designed with replacing a Hotpoint washing machine in mind the process should be very similar - however if you are unsure you can always look to your user manual for more information.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

Safety First! Please make sure that you’ve switched off your appliance and disconnected it from the mains before beginning any repair.

 

  What You Will Need:

 

  Step 1 - Drawer Removal

Now first thing you’ll need to do is remove the drawer from the machine and the way you do this will vary depending on your make or model. Therefore we recommend referring back to your user manual for more information - you should be able to find a downloadable manual for your model here.

However on the Hotpoint machine in the video, a simply push down of the latch and remove.

  Step 2 - Part Separation

With the drawer removed you should be able to see all the components which make it up. You’ve got the drawer the handle, which are two separate parts and can be separated along with the inserts and latch which can simply ‘pop’ out.

  Step 3 - Removing the Handle

To remove the drawer from the handle, it is recommended to use a flathead screwdriver and ‘coax’ the handle away from the drawer. This can be done with ease by locating where the handle and drawer clips together and with the screwdriver you can simply pry them apart.

  Step 4 - Drawer Reassembly

With the two parts separated you can get rid yourself of the old drawer.  Now it’s time to prepare the new drawer so start by inserting the old pieces into the new new drawer. Don’t forget the latch and remember to refit the handle. With everything fitted you just need to place the drawer back into the housing.
