How to Replace the Door Handle on a Bosch Washing Machine

If the door handle on your Bosch washing machine is cracked or broken and this is making it difficult to open the door, it will need to be replaced. In this article, we will take you through how to replace the door handle step by step.

Step 1: Find your model number and details

To make sure you purchase the correct replacement handle for your washing machine, you're going to need to find out the model number and details of your appliance. These can usually be found on the inside of your washing machine door or on the removable kickplate panel at the bottom of the appliance. If you can't find it here, check the side or the back of your washing machine. The model number usually consists of a combination of letters and numbers and could also include characters such as a dash (-) or a slash (/).

Step 2: Note the door glass position

It is important that the door glass on your washing machine looks the same after you have finished the repair. Before you do anything, take a photo of the door glass so you can refer back to it later.

Step 3: Remove the door hinge screws

Locate the two screws that go through the door hinge into the cabinet. Then, remove these with a Torx head screwdriver. When these are removed, you can remove the whole door assembly from the machine.

Step 4: Remove the door screws

Place the door assembly on a flat surface. Then remove all the screws from the door, including the one that is hidden behind the sticker.

Step 5: Remove the hinge

When all the screws are removed, lift up the inner panel slightly and gently pull the door hinge away.

Step 6: Separate the inner and outer door panels

Next, you'll need to flip the door assembly over and let the inner door panel drop down. You can then lift up the outer door panel to remove it.

Step 7: Remove the pin and spring assembly

Put the glass and the inner door panel to one side. Now, on the outer door panel, you'll need to remove the pin and spring assembly. To do this, use a flat-headed screwdriver to loosen it underneath.

Step 8: Remove the door handle

To release the door handle, lift up the outer panel slightly and angle the handle out.

Step 9: Fit the new door handle

Fit the new handle in place of the old one. Make sure that the bars on either side are locked into place. The new door handle should then click into place.

Step 10: Refit the pin and spring assembly

To refit the pin and spring, you'll need to make sure that the metal piece fits underneath the clasp shown below.

Step 11: Refit the outer and inner door panels

Refer back to the image you took of the door assembly earlier on. Position the glass and the inner and outer door panel in the correct place. Then, refit the outer panel onto the assembly and lift up the inner panel. Make sure that the hole for the door catch wraps around the catch itself.

Step 12: Refit the hinge

Flip the door over and refit the hinge by lifting up the inner panel and placing it into position.

Step 13: Refit the screws

Refit all the screws around the door.

Step 14: Refit the door

With all the screws in place, you can now refit the door to your washing machine. To do this, slot it back into place and refit the screws that were previously taken out.

Close and open the door to make sure the new door handle is working as it should before you use the machine.
