The function of a dishwasher filter is to stop all manner of food particles from getting into the inner mechanics of your dishwasher and causing damage. Keeping your filter in good condition and cleaning it regularly will ensure you're only left with sparkling dishes.

Generally speaking, dishwasher filters come in multiple layers and the one in this video is three-layered. There are usually two layers on the inner part of the filter followed by an outer layer. The filter is typically sold as a complete unit, so unfortunately you can’t purchase individual parts separately. 

To remove the faulty filter first take out the lower dishwasher basket. Then you can twist the old one out, remove the metal drain mesh (give it a good clean if needed) and remove the rest of the filter.  

You should be able to place the new filter in, followed by the metal filter plate and then twist and secure the new filter into place.
