How to Replace the Filters on a Dyson - DC25

Replace your vacuum's filters regularly to prevent loss of suction and overheating of the motor. If your Dyson vacuum cleaner filters are causing you a bit of a trouble, you’ve come to the right place.

A Dyson vacuum cleaner has two filters in it, a pre-motor and a post-motor filter. So, if you’re unsure where to start, let us talk you through the process and prove to how simple it is.

For this demonstration will be using a DC25 model, but the process is fairly similar for all Dyson vacuum cleaners.

Pre-Motor Filter

The pre-motor filter on the DC25 is located in the cyclone assembly. To remove the filter, start by removing the cyclone assembly from the vacuum cleaner body, then click open the top cover releasing the filter inside.

This is a washable filter and Dyson recommend that you wash it once every 3 months. Give it a run under the tap, and then giving it a good squeeze to remove any excess moisture and leave it to dry for 24 hours.

Over time the filter can deteriorate from washing, so if it get really dirty, or starts to perish, you'll want to replace it. You might also want to have a spare handy so when you're washing this one you can still use your cleaner with the replacement.

With the filter completely dry, you’re ready to slot it back in your vacuum ready for any vacuuming session.

Post-Motor Filter

The second filter is the post motor filter and this is located in the ball, so you just need to remove the door by pressing the release button on the ball to get at it.

With the door opened all you have to do is push release the filter out of the housing inside the ball and there you have the filter.

Again, although it's washable it's a good idea, if it's really dirty or caked with dust, replace it with a new one. It is recommended by Dyson you wash this filter again at least once every 3 months.

The cleaning process of this filter isn’t any different to the other filter. Run it under the tap, give it a good shake and repeat that 10 times and leave to dry for 24 hours.

Note: You'll want to make sure that this filter is absolutely dry before replacing it because you don't want any moisture getting into your motor.

It's also really important that you keep this filter very clean because, if it gets clogged, it can cause the motor to overheat and cause damage to the internal parts.

Once the mesh filter has completely dried out, simple slot the filter back inside the ball, masking sure it clicks into place. Then all that’s left to do is close the cover on the ball and you’re ready to vacuum any dirty situation in your home.
