How to Replace Washing Machine Controls in a Hotpoint Washing Machine

This video is going to show you how replace the control panel on a Hotpoint washing machine. We are going to be replacing the fascia, which can become scratched or cracked over time, but you’ll also see how to remove and replace the buttons, knobs, lights and the printed circuit board (otherwise known as “PCB” or “module”) - which is situated behind the control panel.

If you happen to own a Samsung washing machine rather than a Hotpoint one, don't worry. We also have a tutorial demonstrating how to change the fascia control panel on a Samsung washer instead.

If you are unable to get through the washing that is piling up because of a fault with an aspect of the controls on your washing machine, eSpares might be able to get you out of this situation.

At eSpares we are able to provide a wide range of replacement controls for washing machines, and you can search our site to locate the correct one for your machine.

That’s not all though...we also have a helpful video and step-by-step guide on how you can these parts yourself - helping you avoid engineer call-outs and more money costs!

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar

  What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Switch off Your Appliance

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Remove the Control Panel

Right then here we go - time to get busy! Start by removing the top panel by unscrewing its screws with a torx-head screwdriver.

You can now proceed to remove the control panel (otherwise known as “fascia”) by removing the screws keeping it in position.

You will notice that there are a lot of wires going into the fascia, so you need to be careful when moving this out. At this stage we have a little eSpares Top Tip to let you know of…

eSpares Top Tip: Take a quick photo of the wires - so that you can rewire them exactly the way later on in the process.

Once the pictures have been taken, you can then remove all of these wires.

Step 3 - Remove the Control Panel Components

Now we’ve removed the control panel from the washing machine, we can see the different components that make it up.

There is the fascia itself, and then the main PCB (which simply clicks out of place). Once moved out you can put it to one side - but do be careful that you don’t damage the electronic components.

Next we have the row of buttons - but again this can simply be clicked out of place, as does this smaller PCB which is specifically for the spin knob.

The wash button is even easier to remove - as it just pops out. The row of lights can be clicked apart, and that then leads us to the final component - which is the on/off button. You might not be surprised to know that this too just clicks out of place.

Step 4 - Fit the New Control Panel

Get your new fascia and simply re-click all of the components that you have removed back into place, just like they were on the old one.

eSpares Top Tip: Although this is relatively simple and you can do this just by using your fingers - you might need a flathead screwdriver if you want a bit of extra help.

Step 5 - Fit the Main PCB & Fascia

With all the various components in position you can now put the main PCB back on, making sure that you reattach the wires as to how they were before (using your photo for reference)

Reattach the fascia to the washing machine, and finish off by attaching the top panel back on your machine.

Well then that is the end to this particular washing machine repair...a big well done to you on attaining some new found DIY skills (all with just  a little help from eSpares of course!)

With the controls now up and running correctly on your machine, you can hopefully get back to having a fully working washing machine again - where it continues to produce the washing performances that you have been used to getting up until now.
