Hi, I’m Helen from eSpares.
Loss of suction in your DC25, like most other Dysons, is usually caused by one of four things:
- Blocked or damaged filters
- Splits or tears in your hosing and seals
- Blockages in your ducting or
- The motor
Safety First! Please make sure that you’ve switched off your appliance and disconnected it from the mains before beginning any repair.
Now, if it's the motor, you’re probably going to know about it. It’ll usually be giving off a loud noise or burning smell.
If it's not your motor, we'll start by looking at the filters. This Dyson has two filters, first is the pre-motor filter, located in the cyclone assembly. This is a washable filter, Dyson recommend you wash it once every 3 months. Just ring it under the tap and give it a good ring out and leave it to dry for 24 hours. Now, if it's really mankey or started to deteriorate, you're going to want to replace it, you may also want to have a spare ready so when this one's drying you can still use your cleaner.
The second filter is the post-motor filter, this is located in the ball so we'll just remove the door and then take the filter out. Again, this is a washable filter. Dyson recommend you wash it once every 3 months. Give it a good rinse under the tap and a good shake, repeat that 10 times and then leave it to dry for at least 24 hours - you'll want to make sure that this is completely dry because you don't want any water getting in by your motor.
So if your filters are fine, you want to check your seals for any splits and the 3 hoses. There's the main hose running down the back, the change-over valve hose and the lower duct hose. So you just want to give them a good check for any splits or tears.
If your hoses are fine, you next want to check for blockages in the ducting. So do what you can to just check all the bits of ducting, you can remove this hose to get better access.
Now we want to check this bit of ducting here, so we need to remove the cleaner head. This is very easy to do, so we can just have a good check of that. Now, although it's not directly related to suction, if your brush bar is clogged it will affect the performance of your machine, so, while we're here, we'll just give that a quick check. You just want to remove any hair or dust that's clogging these brushes - and that's it. All these spares are available on the eSpares website.
