How to Replace an Oven Timer

After an interruption in the electricity supply, when you go to use the oven for the first time, the display flashes at regular intervals - showing 0:00 or -I--.

Press the “Cook Start” and “Cook Stop” buttons together and at the same time press the “+” or “-” buttons (or turn the rotary control on some models) - this will increase or decrease the setting by one minute for each press or click when turning.

Firstly, just to check you are on the right path, here are the warning signs that your timer needs to be replaced:

• The timer on your oven has dimmed or gone totally blank
• You are unable to set it after a power-cut
• The timer is not responding to the buttons you are using

If you are experiencing any of these issues then the time has come to replace the timer. Whatever the reason though, if you need to replace the timer for your oven,  then you will be pleased to know that you have come to the right place!

Safety First! Please make sure that you have Isolated the power to your appliance before starting your repair.

Removing the timer buttons…eSpares Top Tip: Before you remove them if they have specific markings on them, it's a good idea to take a photo of them - to remind yourself of their layout, ready for when you fit them back on later.

To get the timer buttons off, use a flat blade screwdriver (you can pop a cloth underneath so the surface is not damaged in any way).

Say goodbye to your old timer! Well, the time has come to gain access to the timer module now by removing the top panel and unclipping the timer.

It may be that on your oven it's actually held onto the front panel with a bracket (in which case you need to remove that bracket in order to remove the timer module).

For models like the one we are working on today, you can just use a flat blade screwdriver to pop the clips and pull it off. 

Let’s get that new timer in place…just transfer the connections over from the old one to the new timer in exactly the same positions, and then your new timer should work just fine.

Now that you have got the new timer all connected up, you just need to fit it back into place.

Once this is securely fitted, you can now add the top panel of the oven back on. Finally, use the photo that you had took from before to show you how to put the buttons back on the front.

Once these are added, you can now reinstall the oven if required back into its housing and turn the power to the oven on again.

We need to reset the clock. When power has been interrupted to the oven it tends to reset the clock - and that stops the oven from functioning.

If you simply just turn it on, neither the circulation fan or the light may not come on in the oven.

So if this has happened, you just need to reset the clock and you should see the circulation fan come on, and also the light that indicates that the timer is working.

Well done - you have now successfully been able to replace the timer on your oven! You can now get back to creating your tasty meals at dinner time again, in the knowledge that you have fixed the timer all by yourself (with eSpares by your side of course!).
