If the baskets on your dishwasher have become stiff or wobbly when opening and closing them, it is probably due to missing or broken wheels. In this article, we will take you through a step by step guide on how to quickly and easily replace your dishwasher basket wheels.
How to replace dishwasher basket wheels step by step
Find out how to replace the wheels on your dishwasher basket by watching our video or following the step by step guide below.
Safety first!
Make sure your appliance is switched off and fully disconnected from the mains before you begin your repair.
Step 1: Find your model number
Before you start your repair, you will need to make sure you have the correct replacement basket wheels for your dishwasher make and model. The model number on a dishwasher is usually found on a sticker or data plate behind the door or around the frame. If it isn't here, it may be near the base of the dishwasher on a 'kick strip' under the door at the front or on the back or sides of the appliance.
The model number will be a combination of letters and numbers and could also include characters such as a dash (-) or a slash (/). Take a look at our article for more help finding the model number on your dishwasher.
Step 2: Remove the basket
First, you'll want to remove the basket from the dishwasher by simply pulling it out and remove the cutlery basket too.
Step 3: Remove the broken wheel
To remove the faulty wheel, apply pressure to the wheel itself and it should just pop off the basket. If the wheel has already come off or is missing you can ignore this step!
Step 4: Fit the axle and the wheel
Depending on your dishwasher make and model, the wheel and axle will come together or separately. If yours has come separately you will need to attach them together. To do this, put the axle down on a flat surface and place the wheel over the top. This is a bit of a tight fit so you will need to apply some pressure to the wheel using the palm of your hand.
The two parts should then pop together and look like the image below.
Step 5: Attach the wheel to the basket
Once the wheel and axle are assembled together, you can attach them to the basket. Simply push down on the wheel until you hear it click into place.
Step 6: Replace the basket
Place your basket and cutlery basket back inside the dishwasher and make sure it is easily sliding back and forth with the new wheel in place.
It's pretty simple and easy to do and should have your dishwasher basket working again as it should.
