Hotpoint Dishwasher FDL Range Error Code F05
Dishwashers have become very popular over recent years to become one of the most used luxury appliances in a household. It has been proven that using the dishwasher to clean your plates and cutlery uses less water than washing up by hand.
Just like all other appliances in your home, your dishwasher can sometimes suffer from faults that can stop it from working correctly, or in some instances not work at all.
One such fault can be an error code F05 flashing (the first and second lights from the left). This is usually associated with a water draining issue.
Luckily for you though, we can help you with the problem and talk you through the most likely causes of why your dishwasher may not be draining.
Drain Pump
If you’ve come to use your Hotpoint dishwasher only to be greeted with an F05 error code, we’ve got the answers to get those squeaky clean dishes flowing out your dishwasher again.
A common cause of dishwasher woes is a blocked or faulty drain pump, preventing the waste water from draining out and causing the wash cycle to stall. If you didn’t already know, the drain pump is that crucial component that pushes the water through the drain hose.
Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.
- Glassware can break during the wash if this has happened the shards may have fallen and gathered within the pump causing a potential blockage.
- To check the waste pump for faults first remove any excess water using a sponge from the inside base of the dishwasher.
- Inspect the sump (located underneath the filter) for any blockages that may be causing the obstruction and remove if found.
- If no gunk is found check the waste pump, (typically attached to the sump at the base of the washer). You should be able to remove it by either unscrewing or twisting.
- You can use a multimeter to test the pump to determine if it's no longer working properly and needs to be replaced.

Filter
Having a clean filter in your dishwasher is imperative as it collects food debris and other particles, that would otherwise appear on your dishes.
- Usually located at the bottom front of the appliance, remove the filter and clean thoroughly.
- It’s also worth checking the drain hose to make sure it’s not kinked or blocked with debris.
