My Washing Machine Won’t Switch On

Come rain or shine the washing machine is always being used. After some time this can take its toll on the performance of the washer. There are always clothes to wash when you have little ones running around, not scared to make a mess. Keeping your washer working to its full potential is crucial, as a faulty washing machine can cause chaos in the laundry room.

If your washing machine shows no signs of life there could be several reasons to why your washer is refusing to operate. Let us talk you through the two most likely causes for a washing machine to not switch on and get your appliance spinning again.

PCB

If your washing machine is lifeless and none of the functions are operating the first thing to check is if the appliance is receiving a sufficient amount of electricity from the mains.

  • Check this by plugging in another electrical appliance.

If the mains are okay the next thing we can turn to is the PCB, which tends to be the culprit for causing the machine to shut off. The power control board can be somewhat difficult to test and prove that it has failed unless visual damages can be found. Not forgetting that other components can cause the board to fail as a result of them declining too.

Safety First! Please make sure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.

  • Gain access to the PCB by removing the top cover of the machine - some machines may have a power PCB which is located near the bottom of the back panel.
  • Check the unit for any signs of damages or burning, replace if required.

If you have come to the conclusion that the PCB is defective, get yourself onto our online shop for a new control board and reboot life back into your washing machine. We even have step-by-step guides showing you how to replace the PCB in a Samsung ecobubble washing machine as well as in a Hoover washing machine right here!

Power Switch

A common cause to your washing machine no longer working is the power switch. If the power switch has failed - follow our steps below to diagnose your washing machine and hopefully bring it back to life.

Safety First! Please make sure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.
