Washing Machine Causing Holes In Clothes

If you’ve gone through the effort of carrying the heavy laundry pile into the washing machine, separated the clothes according to colour and even put the detergent and softener inside; only to find the clothes have come out ripped- don't fret we can help.

To help find the reasons to this dilemma we’ve created this article - to help get your clothes coming out clean and most importantly, in one piece.

Drum Paddle

Drum paddles help agitate and spin the clothes during the wash cycle. If the clips on the drum paddles become damaged or loose they can inadvertently hook your clothes causing tears, whilst reducing your washing machine's efficiency.

Safety First! Please make sure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.

  • Remove the faulty drum paddle.
  • Replace the defective drum paddle and make sure it’s secure.

If you require a new drum paddle see our extensive range of spares here.

Drum Holes Damaged

Clothing can become ripped or torn for a number of reasons. Zips on clothes can get stuck in the drum holes or the door seal. It is recommended to ensure these particular garments are washed inside out, to avoid unnecessary damage.

Safety First! Please make sure that you've switched off your appliance and disconnected it from the mains before beginning any repair.

  • Check the small holes around the inside drum. A loose nail or bra wire may catch inside the drum holes causing a raised sharp edge.
  • To inspect for damage place a nylon stocking over your hand and carefully pass your hand over the inner drum feeling for raised edges. The stocking should catch any damaged areas of the drum.
  • If a raised edge is located - using a philips head screwdriver carefully wear away any sharp edges.

There will most likely be some dirt and debris inside the washing machine after you’ve finished completing this repair. Our tried and tested Dishwasher & Washing Machine Cleaner removes limescale and detergent built inside your appliance.
