Washing Machine Drum Not Turning

Drum Belt
The drum belt is the connection between the motor and the drum, which operates throughout the complete wash cycle. It is fitted onto the motor and the pulley which turns the drum, without the belt the machine will not turn. Over time it is quite common for the belt to snap due to wear and tear.

Safety First! Please make sure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.
- Gain access to the back of the washing machine and remove the back panel.
- Locate the drum belt, check the belt for any signs of damage and replace if required.

Carbon Brushes
Another part that can prevent the machines drum from turning is the carbon brushes. If your washing machine is not turning the drum when it’s filled with water or on a spin cycle the problem can be due to worn motor brushes.

- Depending on your model, remove the backplate to access the motor
- Once you have access remove the motor
- Check for wear on the carbon brushes and replace if required.
