Washing Machine Not Filling With Water
Picture this, you’ve put the washing on, gone to complete other house chores - only to come back after a couple of hours and find the clothes haven't even begun to get washed.
It's not a good place to be, having to wait around for the washing to be done so that you can go out. If you find the washing machine is not filling with water, you may have an issue with the inlet valve.

Inlet Valve
The washing machine inlet valve is the electrical solenoid valve - and this opens when current is applied to allow the washer to fill up with water from the household water supply.
Now if the valves have either blocked or not been activated, your washer will not fill up with water. With our help, you can prevent your washer from running dry again.
Safety First! Please make sure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.
- If the water supply is turned on and the hose pipe is not kinked the problem may be due to a faulty inlet valve.
- Check the inlet valve with a multimeter to confirm continuity - typically 2000 to 4000 Ohms. (See here for instruction on how to use a multimeter)
If there is no resistance reading or when the machine starts there is a slight hum from the valve, but no water enters the machine, it is likely to be faulty - and will require a replacement valve.
