Washing Machine Won’t Start
With your washer refusing to start those dirty clothes won’t be getting washed anytime soon. Being a common fault there are several reasons to why your washing machine may be failing to activate.

Door Interlock
If the door lock isn't engaged, nothing will work. Clearly, you wouldn’t start the machine with the door open and if you accidentally did then it will be the first thing to check and ensure it is closed. If your washing machine control panel lights up but does not initiate a programme the problem is likely to be one of the following reasons:
- The door handle and catch are not engaging correctly when closed - ensure that the door closes firmly.
- The door lock is perhaps sticking.

Carbon Brushes
A common part that can prevent the machine from washing is the carbon brushes. If your washing machine is not turning the drum when it’s filled with water or on a spin cycle the problem can be due to worn motor brushes.
Safety First! Please make sure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.
- Depending on your model, remove the backplate to access the motor
- Remove the motor and check for any signs of damage
- Remove the carbon brushes and check for any signs of wear, replace if required.
