My oven seemed to be working ok, but in fact burnt some cakes black in about ten minutes.

I replaced the heating element in my oven a couple of days ago and all seemed ok. (the old element died a week ago and I bought the element from eSpares.) Any ideas what could be wrong?

If the oven is overheating then it is likely to be the thermostat.
