Temperature is not constant

I have a thermometer in fridge and temperature varies between 1 and 5 degrees. Does this indicate the thermostat needs replacing?

A mechanical thermostat will have a cut in and cut out temperature difference of several degrees. Combined with the variation of readings caused by warm air entering this is likely to be correct. A better way to measure is to put a thermometer in a glass of water to read an average temperature that should be more stable.
