why would the inner glass door shatter whilst cooking

These sometimes 'randomly' shatter. it is due to the fact the glass is toughened and if hit or knocked previously it can have caused a small flaw. As the glass heats and expands the flaw may suddenly expand and explode into crystals helping to reduce risk of injury from large pieces of hot glass.
