The lamp glass has broken horizontally and fallen independently, and I am left with the threaded part of the glass stuck in the holder. 6 Answers
The removal tool doesn't help as the lugs that it grips came off when the bowl cracked off. How do I remove the remaining part of the goas, i.e. the threaded part which is intact as one piece?
- This happened to me yesterday, using the grill. I had changed the bulb over a year ago so it wasn't over tightening. Half the cover fell on my lunch of its own volition as it cracked in half and then the rest came away, leaving the thread in place. It's not fit for purpose if this is happening so often. Will have to smash it out.
- Wait until the oven is cold. Remove the bulb. Then get a piece of duct tape. Use most of it to cover the whole of the inside of what`s left of the glass cover and roll the rest over the broken lip. Then with a pair of long nosed pair of pliers gently grip the taped over glass and jiggle it round until it comes out. Covering the glass with tape prevents fragments of glass going everywhere. These covers are prone to breaking especially if hit with the lid of a casserole. Best to place casseroles on a low shelf well away from the light.

The glass can break due to thermal expansion if excessively tightened. Always refit to loosely hand tight.
- Wearing appropriate PPE place a towel in the bottom of the oven and remove the trays and grates etc. Get a pair of needle nosed pliers and use to twist the damaged part out. It will start to break as you wrist it, but at least you will get it out. This seems to be a common fault - mine has failed in exactly the same way twice now.
- Same thing happened to my lamp cover. I used a piece of wood with a rubber glove over it. It needed quite a lot of both upward and rotational pressure but I got it out. Thanks to Chris for the tip.

You will need to improvise. Try pushing a piece of wood with a cloth around the end into the socket to apply pressure to the end and rotate the stump. Be careful not to injure yourself and use gloves and glasses for protection. You may need to replace the lamp holder if either you damage it or cannot remove the glass.
How often should these break. We have recently had three in two months (Five in four years). I am not overtightening so does this indicate a problem with the glass or the oven itself.

Re Keith Harris: The usual cause of failure is expansion due to heat, are you using a 'self clean or pyro clean' function as these can produce very high temperatures (400c) to incinerate the deposits?.
- We too are suffering frequent breaks. Always the threads coming away from the bowl of the cover. Have tried fitting really loosely but same happens. Could it be a design/ manufacturing fault? Perhaps of this batch? Definitely not fit for purpose. The lamp is in the grill by the way.

If the cover is tightened when the oven heats the glass expands causing pressure on its surround. Only screw up loosely to prevent this re occuring.
We have Neff oven B1442N0GB/03 and it is proving impossible to get the cover off to replace the bulb. I can see you have tool Stock Number: ES1123507 but when I enter our oven details it says our oven is not compatible with that tool. Thanks.

Stock Number: ES1123507 is the correct fitting tool only.
I've had this Neff oven for about 10 years and the bulb failed after about a year and a half but I've been cooking in the dark ever since because I couldn't get the cover off. Now, having seen all the good comments about this gadget, I sent for one (and also a replacement lens, although mine isn't broken - yet!). The old lens still refuses to unscrew, although it does move about a quarter turn before stopping. I have tried pre-heating the oven to 50C and tapping with a wooden spoon to see if it will loosen. I have given up for now, but hoping someone can help. I seem to be the only one who can't get it to work.

Try when hot give a firm but not too heavy blow to the lamp cover with a wooden or rubber mallet as this may help break any bond created by grease or cleaner residue. Then try and work back and forth until the cover turns and releases. Worst case you may have to replace the lamp holder and cover if required.

This tool fits selected Bosch, Neff and Siemens ovens only and will help remove the lamp cover. Warm the oven and apply WD40 to the joint between glass and holder for a minute before trying to remove if particularly stubborn.
