Upper Spray Arm Feed Pipe
This channel is found at the top of your dishwasher, connected to the upper spray arm. It's one of the passages which water is passed through for the arm to rotate. A blocked or damaged drainage channel can prevent water from flowing correctly, resulting in poor cleaning performance.
Fortunately, replacing the channel is simple to perform with household tools and will restore functionality to your dishwasher in no time.

It could be either but the spray arm is more likely to be the cause of your problem.
When I load my dishwasher, the items in the upper basket are always covered in deposits from the cycle. The underside of these items sometimes come.out clean, but more often than not they don't. Should there be 2/3 sprays inside this dishwasher. Or just the one at the bottom and the one attached to the bottom of the upper basket. Or is there a third above the upper basket, if so this is what I need.

Check the spray arm 'jets' are not blocked or restricted with particles of food and always rinse off all food particles before loading the machine. Clean the jets and confirm the spray arms spin freely.
