It is likely due to the damage that you would need to test the heating circuit with a multimeter to determine which part has failed and this video may help www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYPqpjLV7s4&list=PLZopaZU-UQSHj1noiwEJ99JjXWcEcSAbZ just copy and paste into your browser.

Answer this question

Our dryer kept tripping out so I reset it by pushing the thermostat switch down and it worked again, about a week ago I noticed no heat in the dry cycle so obviously nothing dries. Button on thermostat was still down. Does that sound like we need a new thermostat or element? The washer heater seems fine. If we need a new dryer element, please can you tell me which will fit? Thank you

The dryer heater is likely to have caused the tripping, meter the heater and thermostats to determine the cause. Would require full model details to source correct part.

These thermostats are normally closed until the heat exceeds their operating temperature at which point they go open circuit and do not reset themselves.
