It would be tidier if I can take off the solenoid part and reverse it so the electical connections face the other way. Is this possible? Hotpoint 7840 dishwasher

This would be possible but could damage the valve if done badly.

It is likely but check its clear water as if its dirty water it may be back flowing from the drain, also check the water pressure before deciding the valve.
