Hi there. It sounds as if there's a problem with the thermostat. I'd imagine what's happening is that the 'stat isn't capping the heat inside the oven, causing it to overheat. This will cause the thermal fuse to trip, which in turn will cut out the element. Once the heat in the oven is back to a safe level, the fuse will untrip and the grill will come back on again.
