1 Question and 1 Answer
The bolts that fix the motor to the drum on my AEG L64840 (PNC 91452 4535 01) have sheared, dropping the motor on to the spill tray. The motor doesn't appear to have been harmed - I could hear it spinning, though the drum wasn't. I've removed the ends of the sheared bolts and I'm looking for replacements. The bolts are hex plus washer head with a self-tapping thread. These fitted through the lugs on the drum and screwed into triangular holes cast in the alloy end plate at the pulley end of the motor. There are actually four fixing points on drum and motor, but only the rear two were used. The lugs on the drum have collars moulded and these mate with cups in the motor end plates. There is no damage apparent to any of the lugs. The machine had a drum replacement under guarantee and I'm wondering if the engineer used the correct fittings and/or tightened them correctly. (I suspect he may have sheared the bolts when tightening and only the drive belt kept the motor in place until now. I don't believe the bolts would have been under shear stress if the bosses were fully engaged with the cups). Grateful if you could advise whether your part ES561965 is the correct one and whether passing through a clearance hole in the drum lug and tapping into the motor end plate is the correct way of fixing - the bolts *look* as if they should be cutting a thread in plastic rather than metal. (It's possible that the replacement drum and original motor are not fully compatible...?) Many thanks.
