There is a small plastic spindle that fits onto the back of the switch and then connects through to the knob. Does this switch come with the plastic spindle or can it be purchased separately as it's this plastic spindle that's broken? 1 Answer

The selector switch has an aluminium shaft, there is a plastic coupling fitted between the switch and the knob. Please look at this web page to confirm the part http://www.espares.co.uk/search?SearchTerm=00420601
It is the plastic spindle that fits into the back of the knob that is broken.

You have not given us the model number to check if this is all you need for your appliance. This control has an aliminium shaft, This may be extended by a plastic adaptor on your appliance. Check with yours or supply the model number for us to check.
