Washing Machine Door Handle Kit Stock Number: ES544940
Genuine spare part for select models of Hoover, Candy and Maytag washing machines
As was was to much in a hurry i never paid enough attention to the position of the retaning spring can you please help to allow me to install this kit many thanks
- I eventuall managed this, but for goodness sake take a photo before taking apart. I did not and wrestled for hours, until I noticed 'MHCUZZ' comment, the loop goes on the inside of the door latch, the hooks facing inward. When you reassemble the two sides there is a slight resistene around the latch, this is the spring tensioning. Eureka!
- When you take the door apart you'll probably hear a ping as the spring comes away from the chrome door assembly - this provides all the tension for the spring. When refitting, make sure that you fit the chrome surround around the locking mechanism first - you'll feel pressure from the spring as it gets forced against the surround. You can check the door handle paddle to be sure. Then push down the rest of the surround and screw tight. Nightmare to fit without instructions and the video does not help much at all!! But it DOES work...
- I had exactly the same difficulties but eventually realised that what's important is getting the U in the spring to act against the metal catch not the plastic handle. Once I had that sorted it was no problem
- can be a little tricky. the chrome door surround needs to press against the spring. It took me about 6 goes to get it right
- the spring should be fitted so the two legs press against the inside of the door rim
Hi, I bought the washing machine handle replacement kit recently, however when I came to fit the handle I noticed that the screws used to unscrew the inner door are of an odd shape/size i.e. it's not a Phillips, Cross-head or Allen key screw. Can anyone please help advise on what type of instrument I should be using to remove this? Thanks in advance, YK

Hi Skybluessam, your fellow customers are right; you'll need a torx head screwdriver to fit this part. You can find one right here: http://www.espares.co.uk/part/kitchen-appliances/p/1/0/0/0/1251179/9-piece-torx-head-screwdr.html
- I believe they are "Star" shape bits, commonly referred to a "TORX" bits. Available from most good DIY or Tool Stores.
- I've just done the very same job, this morning and fitted a new handle. You need a set of tamperproof star head screwdrivers or bits. They are designed to remove security screws and special headed bolts etc. My set is a 16 piece torx bit set and can be obtained at any good DIY store. Good Luck!
Ok staff. I have purchased this kit and am struggling with your attempted explanations. We didn't take a photo before disassembling - doh! CAN YOU PLEASE PROVIDE ONE! There isn't a close enough instructional on YouTube. The EXACT positioning of the spring is the only thing stopping this job getting done. Thanks
- Thank you for response. Yes, a photo was a big ask but any kind of diagram would be a help. I do think this could be included on your site or within the kit packaging. The long spring makes it an unfathomable jigsaw puzzle.

We are sorry but cannot provide a photograph as we do not have access to one of theses machines. We buy our own second hand machines to film repairs on and at this time do not have any Hoover washing machines.
Is there a picture of the mechanism in place? Door latch stays loose once everything has been put back together - any ideas? 2 Answers
- the sprig should be behind the latch so as to push it away from handle in order for it to lock when closed
- I would gues that you have not got the spring located correctly to hold the latch in the closed position.

Please take a look through the website below to see if you can spot an article that can advise you on your fault. If not perhaps give Hoover a call and do a quick diagnosis on the phone with them. http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/washing-machine-repairs.html

Hi Kellyk, try this page for help: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1164/how-to-fit-indesit-washing-machine-door-handl.html
- Its the 2 sticking up curved parts on the spring, one fits in normally as you would think, the bottom one actually goes down into the next recess and the forward part of the recess (as it is walled in between) This is what makes the spring work.
putting a new handle on, which way round does the spring fir?

I finally got the handle replaced and working. Had similar issues as others with the puzzle of spring (In this case - an old Hoover hnl6166- putting the door back together created the force acting on the spring to keep lock pushed out and handle as mechanism to release) BUT on rehanging the door it is extremely difficult to open again? Its like the handle doesnt depress enough to release the catch?? But the glass bowl is also rubbing past the seal when closing so it seems all misaligned perhaps?! Worried I will end up breaking the new handle AND the catch. Any ideas what's likely be causing the problem?

If you have removed the hinge during repair check its height and position is correctly adjusted.
How do you open the door if the catch is broken. On the hoover hnl662 washer.

We do not have a hoover video, Check the latch is being sprung to lock on its barb and that it lifts the barb when the handle is used. For more information see another video: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/7/1278/how-to-fit-a-washing-machine-door-handle
