  • I’ve just checked one out for a neighbour and there’s two segments of the commutator blown out, apparently it’s only been used twice so it would seem that quality control might be an issue with these motors. By G J YOUNG - London - 23 May 2019

If the motor segments are uneven then it will cause the damage to the brushes, the motor would need to be replaced.

Answer this question

Leaking oil, would this explain the drop in pressure or could there be two separate issues?

  • Is the pump working or just the electric motor? I've just stripped mine down and found the gear which should be a tight interference fit is now loose on the motor spindle. It doesn't provide any drive into the reduction box or pump. By SM - - 15 February 2019

  • My pressure cleaner K2.300 does not run with a capacitor. In my case the armature is burnt out. Bad quality - I guess. Solution: Change the motor!! By Mack - Australia - 05 February 2018

Depending on model check the motor brushes or the motor capacitor.

Answer this question

Checked across motor, resistance was low.switch seems OK as when off open circuit ,when on position getting resistance. When i check across the capacitor no capacitance reading. What other reading can i take to try and work out whats wrong.I am prepared to try a new capacitor wiring loom if it's that .Or a new switch but if it's the motor it may not be worth it.

Answer this question

My Karcher K2 began to lose power and then it shut off completely and won't turn back on. I've taken it apart and tested the various parts of the circuit and switch etc is all fine except there is very high resistance across the motor. The carbon brushes look a bit worse for wear and the spinning part of the motor they brush against has two copper pieces of its cylinder blown off. There is also a scorch mark on the ridge of the metal bit that goes over the coils of wire (it's the metal bit that looks like its made out of new staples bunched together, if you know what I mean). Would it be worth me reattaching the copper bits that came off and replace some new carbon brushes or do you think the whole motor is kaput? Kind Regards, Matt

The motor would require replacing due to the damage to the motor commutator segments.

If the pressure washer pulses when operating try a different spray nozzle as there may be an obstruction causing it to shut off then restart. If it pulses when stopped check for a leak or suspect the seals.

Yes it is likely to need a new motor but you may be lucky if you dismantle it and find a motor capacitor that is bulging or showing signs of damage it may be just the capacitor.

The problem is likely to be the motor but I would try replacing the motor capacitor first before the motor.
