my oven is making a screaming sound when on the fan is still working but could a new one stop this noise

By grimo - - 09 December 2008
  • My Stoves oven was doing the same thing and also slowing and speeding up while howling like a banshee. I replaced the fan motor and noise etc is gone. Looks like new fan has fixed the problem. Our oven model is DF550SI, model no. 050544026 if yours is similar. By lebk1202 - Hampshire - 05 December 2009

Hi Grimo Without actually seeing your Stoves cooker, it is impossible to tell what is causing this problem. What I would advise is talking to your local Stoves or cooker specialist and they should be able to diagnose the problem for you. And that's where we come in! With hundreds of Stoves spares, we're bound to have the part for you

Answer this question

I've fitted the new fan motor, and the bottom oven works great, but the grill now comes on without a fan, and overheats the knobs? Also, the fan used to run on for a while after switching off, but now switches off straight away?

There is usually a cut in thermostat often fitted on the top of the fan duct that when warm turns the fan on independently of the cooker controls. It is likely that this has failed if the fan does not remain on when hot.

Answer this question

The fan is delaying kicking in each time we turn it on ! We took the back of the oven off and it worked perfectly but when putting the back on it is taking a while to come on again

The correct part for your oven is Stock Number: ES923165. We have many 'compatible' fan motors listed that may fit many manufacturers appliances but it is important you remove the old motor and match it with one of these before ordering as each may have slight differences in fittings or sizes.

Check the fan spins freely and it has a resistance of less than approximately 3000 ohms, If not replace it. If the fan checks out replace the cut in/fan thermostat.

Answer this question

my stoves fan started making a noise and then eventually stopped. The day the replacement arrived it started spinning again but only for a day or two. At the point I replaced it, it was either stopped or moving very slowly. Imagine my disappointment when the brand new fan behaved the same! Any ideas? Will examine any passive components when I get round to taking the back off again...

  • Hi, It does sound like the fan, in my Q720EM (ten years old now) the fan had been playing up for about a year. We had to give the fan a push to get it started. Just before xmas the element went wrong, so i changed that. After that the oven was reaching temperature, but not cooking very well, i noticed that the fan wasn't spinning very fast, so I got this replacment for it. As soon as i put the oven on for the first time, you could see the fan spinning much quicker, the oven now works perfectly again. By Jason - bracknell - 13 January 2011

Hi stan, the fan motor and the grill element are on the circuit - and something along the line has failed. It could well be the grill energy regulator, or it could be that either the fan or the grill element has failed. One breaking can stop the other working. My advice would be to check all three with a multimeter to test for current so you know which has failed.

Answer this question

Every time i switch the oven on (even just to the light setting and the fan automatically comes on at the same time), after about 5 - 10 minutes of the oven working the electricity in the house turns off. I have replaced the fan element and that still heats up. The fan still works and isn't making any noises. It is definitely the oven shorting out the electricity as it only happens when the fan is turned on.

  • dont know if this problem as just started happening or not but i myself as a tradesman would get the appliance tested by a qualified electrical engineer or ask a member of the manufacturers technical dept over the phone,it may also pay to get a qualified electrician to check the mains wiring just incase.hope this helps in some way.
