when the oven blew it may have damaged other components which are now damaged, check the switch & the thermostat to determine if they have failed.
The last time it was used it was fine, I'm wondering if it is the element or the thermostat that needs replacing.

It is likely to be the element that has failed, you can check it with a multimeter to confirm.
It is only one year old

If the thermostat cycles it is unlikely to be the thermostat, check the FSD connected to the burner in the oven that has failed.

The problem is likely to be a faulty element. See our video: How to use a Megger to Identify a Faulty Element: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/9/2979

It is normal for oven thermostats to have a significant temperature swing before cutting in or out but this would typically be + or - 10C. A new thermostat may be better.
