Ask a Question

i own an indesit is70c condensed tumbledryer, it has just stopped heating the air up in dryer, is this model bad for heating elements renowned for failing or is it more likely to be thermostats,?????????

By budgies20 - scotland - 13 May 2009
  • Most likely themostat or cutout.Check if fluff filter has been cleaned after every drying cycle if not machine will cut in/out until failure of the themostat/cut out occurs. Easier & cheaper to start by changing the thermostat kit. See post "Dryer runs but fails to heat" By Timsim - Folkestone Kent - 25 January 2010

Hi Budgies20, this model isn't notorious for any particularly dodgy parts - it will be just general wear and tear or plain bad luck that's caused this problem. Check this page out for help: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/tumble-dryers/a/9/117/common-tumble-dryer-faults.html

These thermostats do not have a reset button and should be replaced if failed.

Tumble dryers may be affected by extreme cold but that may not explain why your dryer is not working, for more information see our video: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/9/2050/how-to-diagnose-tumble-drier-drying-and-heating-problems

In the second image the thermostat on the left (grey spot?) is a safety cut out and will 'trip' if the heat exceeds the safe limit. The yellow spot is a 'cycling' thermostat that repeatedly cuts in and out to control the heater temperature during drying.

The last ten minutes of the cycle the heat is off during the cool down cycle. If the heater and thermostats are OK it can be the timer. For more information see our video: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/9/2050/how-to-diagnose-tumble-drier-drying-and-heating-problems

Answer this question

My dryer is showing a warning sign that the water container needs to be emptied, even though there is no water in the container. Also it is no longer heating up. Are they related, as I do not want to purchase items to repair if the heating issue is due in some way to the warning sign.

There is a reservoir at the back that condensation drains into before being pumped into the container. When full a float will rise shutting off power to the heater and preventing flooding. Your fault is likely to be either the pump impeller (like a rubber band and prone to split) or a stuck float switch.

Hi, I've just purchased ES658577 to replace the ones in my Hotpoint CTD00 which had some non original stats fitted a while back, needless to say they have failed and need replacing. Neither of the stats fitted have an identifying white spot on them and they appear different from the proper article (the failed ones appeared to be a sealed can with crimped edges)Can you tell me if the white spot stat attaches to blue or orange cable. Thanks. Ben.

By Ben - Derbyshire - 11 August 2011
  • Ben, doesn't matter which way round they go as the stat is just a switch consisting of a bymetal strip. Normal closed contact when cold as the heat builds up the bymetal strip starts to bend according to it's designed rate until it opens the circuit thus switching the load off the dryer.Hope this helps. • The cut out works when a max temp is reached to protect the machine. The switch is used to control the dryer at the correct operating range selected. No difference visually except part no. so care should be taken to fit like for like to avoid wiring problems. Easier to change as a pair & more cost effective. Access by removing panel at back, tools required X-head s'driver & long-nose pliers.Beware sharp metal edges. Good luck!
